How Does Online Therapy Work?

What Platform Do I Use?

Online therapy allows us to have counselling session from the comfort of your space. The process is similar to in-person counselling, except you can attend from anywhere in BC, Alberta, Yukon, Saskatchewan, Manitoba. No matter where you are - I can be there with you via a video call.

After booking your appointment, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a secure link to join the session. At the scheduled time, simply click the link to enter the virtual waiting room. I will then join the session, and we’ll meet face-to-face through video for your counselling appointment.

During our sessions, we’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, explore some of your experiences, including thoughts and emotions, and work together to develop effective steps to support and improve your well-being.
Many people find that online therapy feels just as personal and supportive as meeting in person at a counselling office.
Online therapy can help with a wide range of concerns, including:
-
Life transitions and personal growth
-
Self-esteem and confidence
Sessions are conducted online through Jane App, therapy is accessible from anywhere in British Columbia, making it easier to fit counselling into your schedule.
Joining From Your Computer
Online sessions are held through Jane App, a secure and easy-to-use platform designed specifically for healthcare providers.
When you book your appointment, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a secure video link.
At the time of your session, simply click the link and log into the Jane portal to join the video call. There is no need to download any special software.

Jane’s video system is private and encrypted, helping ensure that your counselling sessions remain confidential.

Joining Your Session from a Phone or Tablet

If you’re joining your online session from a phone or an iPad, you may be prompted to download the Jane app to access the video appointment. The app is free and allows you to securely join your session with just a few taps.

Once the app is installed, simply open the appointment link from your confirmation email or reminder message. You’ll be guided into the virtual waiting room, and I’ll join the session at our scheduled time.

If you prefer not to download the app, you can also join your session from a computer using your web browser.
Is Online Therapy Effective?

Many people wonder whether online therapy is as effective as meeting a counsellor in person.
Research and clinical experience show that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns, including anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, and trauma.
Online counselling allows you to connect with me, your therapist, through secure video sessions from the comfort of your own space.
For many clients, this can actually make it easier to connect and engage in the therapeutic process.
Being in a familiar environment can help feel more relaxed and emotionally safe during our counselling sessions.
Studies have found that virtual therapy produces similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues such as anxiety and depression.

Ultimately, what matters the most is the quality of the therapeutic relationship and the therapeutic alliance between counsellor and client - and not the physical location of the session.
